What the package covers.

    Surface preparation

    Substrate moisture, contamination and profile tested before a system is confirmed. Preparation is where a resin floor is won or lost, so it is scoped as work in its own right rather than absorbed into the laying.

  2. 02

    Epoxy & resin systems

    Build-up chosen against loading, chemical exposure, temperature and the shutdown the operation can actually give. Primer, body coat and topcoat are specified as one system, not as three separate purchases.

  3. 03

    Protective coatings

    Steelwork, plant bases and bunded areas coated to a specification written from the exposure they face, with the low-VOC option stated where the brief allows it.

    Line marking & demarcation

    Traffic routes, pedestrian walkways and racking lines set out to the operating layout and recorded, so the next remark follows the same geometry instead of a fresh guess.

04.5.1A · WHY THE SYSTEM IS THE DECISION

The second installation is the expensive one.

A floor system is selected against four things, and appearance is not among them: the wheel loads and point loads it will actually take, what gets spilled on it and how often, the temperature it cures at and the temperature it lives at, and how long the area can be out of service. Get the first three right and the specification more or less writes itself. Get the fourth one wrong and the correct floor is unbuildable.

Recoating is where the weight sits, and it is almost never the material. It is the shutdown — the racking emptied, the line stopped, the work moved elsewhere for a week. A system that lasts eight years instead of four does not save one installation; it saves one shutdown, and on an operating floor the shutdown is the larger number by a distance. That is why durability is treated here as a sustainability decision rather than a specification preference.

On VOCs the position is narrow and it is deliberate. Where the client’s brief allows it, low-VOC and low-odour systems are specified, the product data is collected and the choice is recorded. Where the duty genuinely demands a system with no low-emission equivalent, we say so, we say why, and we control exposure during the works — instead of claiming something the product cannot support.

A floor that lasts twice as long is a waste decision, an energy decision and a cost decision made once, correctly. Durability, resilience, repairability and maintainability are specified by default — and the specification survives in the handover record.
